Are you interested in birth photography, but you're worried about the cost?

I get it; birth photography can be expensive, and it's important to understand why.

Let's talk about it!

I always wanted to hire a birth photographer but assumed I just wouldn’t be able to afford it, so I never even looked into it, for any of my births. In hindsight, I’m kicking myself x3 for not even considering it beyond a fleeting desire. I’m embarrassed to admit that I’m actually kind of jealous of my clients because I’m obsessed with their photos and wish I had some of me and my babies!

Birth photography requires a specialized skill set and experience.

Birth is unique from other types of motherhood photography because it is entirely candid. If you miss a shot, there is no going back. “Sorry, would you mind pushing that baby back in so I can get a better picture of him crowning?” yeah, can’t do that.

As a birth photographer, I'm not just a skilled photographer, but I also have a deep understanding of childbirth and the birthing process. I know how to work with low light situations, respect your privacy and intimacy, and most importantly, I know how to capture the moments that matter most.

Birth photography takes a lot of time.

I have to be available to rush off to your place of birth at any given moment from the time I go on call until baby arrives. Births can last a few hours or even up to a day or more and I'll often spend several hours editing and processing the photos after the birth to ensure that the final product meets my high standards and your expectations.

The cost of birth photography includes more than just the time spent at the birth and editing the photos.

It also covers the cost of professional-grade camera equipment, including cameras, lenses, lighting, and editing software. Additionally, as a birth photographer, I invest in ongoing training and education to improve my skills and stay up-to-date with the latest techniques and trends.

So, if you're considering birth photography, know that it's worth every penny and more!

Don’t just take my word for it ;) Here is what some of my clients had to say about their investment:

Kennedy: I can't recommend Shandy enough. She's not just talented; she's a genuinely warm and caring person you'll be so glad to have by your side. And about those photos? If you're debating, please don't! Shandy captured moments I'll treasure forever. I literally look at them multiple times a day - they make my heart so full.

Nikki:  She photographed my birth and those photos are now some of my greatest treasures. I'm so thankful for the photos I have of those sacred moments. I'll forever be indebted to Shandy for all she did for me during such a holy time, and for her help in allowing me to connect with Heaven.

Kyla: I couldn’t imagine having anyone else as a photographer or doula in my next chapter, I look at my pictures almost daily and I have a few hanging around my home to remind me that this is what it is about, thank you so much Shandy you are amazing!
